Time for some honest self-reflection – How do your evenings usually go?
Does this sound familiar?……You finish work feeling a bit fried. You might be snappy with your family, graze through the fridge (or the wine rack), collapse in front of the TV, doom scroll for an hour, go to bed late and then wonder why you still feel exhausted the next morning.
Here’s the thing: Your evening sets the tone for your tomorrow.
Most people focus on starting their day right. However, if your evenings are chaotic, mindless, or you are overindulging, then you are setting the next day up to be an uphill battle before it even begins.
The good news? You don’t need to overhaul your life. Small shifts can and will make a big difference to you.
Here are a few that I personally use and know will help:
💡 Plan, don’t panic – Take just 30 minutes to prep for tomorrow. A quick look at your calendar, a to-do list, and a few priorities can shift you from reactive to proactive.
📵 Unplug to recharge – At least an hour before bed, put down the phone. Turn off all screens. Your brain will thank you. So will your sleep.
🥦 Nourish yourself – Less UberEats, more thought. You don’t need to become a nutrition saint – just start with one better choice.
😴 Prioritise sleep – Consistent, good sleep isn’t a luxury – it’s your brain’s power source.
📚 Read or reflect – Something calming, something that makes you think, or something that just brings you joy.
🛋 Do nothing on purpose – Give yourself permission to just be. No guilt. No to-do list. No checking emails or social media notifications.
By the way, I recommend not trying all of these at once because they might become a fast-track to greater frustration. Set yourself up for success by picking pick one or two to focus on this week and once you get them right move onto another one.
Your evening is where tomorrow begins. Choose well.
Reflect on this question: What are you doing today to make tomorrow the way you want it to be?
