Stop Teaching People You’re Always Free

What feels generous now can become exhausting later.

You reply straight away once. Lovely.

You reply straight away ten times. Helpful.

You reply straight away every time… and now you’ve accidentally created a standard.

This happens everywhere. At work. With clients. With your team.

With your kids. With your partner. With family. You think you’re being responsive,

supportive, easy to deal with. And sometimes you are.

But constant availability has a cost.

In the beginning, it can feel warm and fuzzy. Especially in a new role, new relationship,

new client arrangement, or new season of leadership. You want to show up.

You want to be dependable. You want people to know they matter.

Beautiful intention. However it is building a really risky pattern.

Because over time, fast access can turn into expected access.

And expected access can create dependency, interruption, resentment,

and a whole lot of energy leakage you did not budget for.

So ask yourself: what response-time standard are you training people to expect from you?

New perspective is this: responsiveness is not the same as availability on demand.

If you want to set better boundaries without becoming cold or unavailable, reach out.
