Hey I’m calling you out.
Be honest, really honest, with yourself for a second for me. How often do you say “I’m too busy”… when what you really mean is “I’m avoiding it”? It being something you don’t really want to do.
I get it. Because “I’m too busy” is a great line. Very respectable. Very believable. Also… often completely untrue.
Busy is a brilliant hiding place. It sounds responsible. It makes you look like you’ve got standards and a full life. And it lets you delay the thing without having to admit the real reason you’re delaying it.
And most of the time, the reason for the delay isn’t time. It’s fear.
Not panic-fear. The quieter kind of fear that is stealthy and deep seated. Fears like: if I start, I’ll have to back myself. If I do it, it might not work. If I change, I might disappoint someone. If I succeed, I’ll have to keep showing up at that level.
So instead, you stay busy doing safe work. The tidy work. The low-risk tasks that look productive but don’t require courage. Planning. Tweaking. Admin. More “prep.”
And if reading this made you feel defensive or annoyed. That reaction is information. Use it.
So, here’s the question:
What’s the thing you keep pushing back with “I’m too busy”… that you’re actually avoiding?
And if reading this made you feel defensive or annoyed. That reaction is information. Use it.
