If You’re Bored, You Might Just Be in the Wrong Lane

Are You Committed To Staying in Your Lane? You Might Be Missing the Magic

We’ve all heard it – “Stay in your lane.” It’s usually meant with really good intentions and is code for:  Stick to what you know. Keep things tidy. Don’t ruffle feathers.

However, here’s the truth of that statement: Staying in your lane is likely to be quietly shrinking your world.

Sure, it probably feels very safe. Predictable. Comfortable. But after a while, that feeling of safety has the potential to turn into a sense of being stuck and out of options. Predictable starts to feel painfully dull. And comfort? Well, it stops being so comfortable when you realise you’re not growing, stretching, or doing anything that really lights you up.

When we cling too tightly to what we’ve always done- whether it’s a role, a routine, or a belief about ourselves – we miss out on what could be. The job you don’t apply for. The conversations you avoid. The opportunities you talk yourself out of.

Leaders don’t grow by staying in familiar lanes. We humans simply don’t thrive in tight boxes. We expand by taking detours, switching gears, and sometimes hopping the metaphorical median strip to try something new – even if we’re a bit wobbly at first.

Stepping outside your lane isn’t reckless – it’s brave. It takes courage and vulnerability.  It’s where confidence builds. Where your imagination is firing and your creativity wakes up. This is where you discover just how capable you really are and what you are capable of.

So……the big question to ask yourself: Am I playing small in any area of my life right now just because it’s what I’ve always done?

Because that best version of you? They are there…….probably just a little further down the road… in a lane you haven’t tried yet.

🚦 Ready to switch it up and steer toward something more expansive? Let’s connect  – I’m here for it.
